Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag. A “Crafted in Japan” model sold exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, this Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically with features including a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and gloss Gunmetal Blue finish with matching headstock.
While most Fender basses outfitted with the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2” nut width of the Jazz Bass. The pickups offer the ample thump and heft of a Precision split-coil neck pickup, and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge. Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. This bass weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 45-100 strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .985” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this tonewood with a 7 1/4” radius and pristine stock slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 1/2” in width, and on the matching headstock, the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated hardware includes the bridge, control plate, and Strat-style knobs, all of which are bright and clean with minimal patina. Plastics comprise the multi-ply black pickguard.
The gloss Gunmetal Blue finish is framed on top by cream binding, and cosmetic wear includes two areas of light buckle rash on the back, just south of the belly contour and on the treble-side lower bout. There is a singular finish chip on the lower bout body edge, and a few additional light finish scratches and minor marks on the body as a whole. The neck retains its smooth satin finish on the profile.
A Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
