Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original padded gigbag. A “Crafted in Japan” model sold exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, this Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically with features including a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, and gloss Dolphin Gray finish with matching headstock.

While most Fender basses outfitted with the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2” nut width of the Jazz Bass. The pickups offer the ample thump and heft of a Precision split-coil neck pickup, and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge. Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. This bass weighs 9lbs 4oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 strings, comfortable action and accurate intonation.

The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .855” deep at the 1st fret and 1.005” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4” radius and pristine stock slender fretwire, playing cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 1/2” in width, and on the matching headstock, the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated hardware includes the bridge, control plate, and Strat-style knobs, which have a consistent dusting of patina. Plastics comprise the multi-ply black pickguard, which shows some requisite scuffing on the treble side of the strum path.

The gloss Dolphin Gray finish is framed on top by cream binding, with cosmetic wear limited to a handful of small dings on the back and lower bout perimeter, as well as a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with a few tiny shallow nicks along the profile length that don't distract the palm while fretting.

The original Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
