Up for sale, a 2008 Edwards by ESP E-LP-130LTS/RE electric guitar in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This rare LP Standard, made by ESP under the “Edwards” banner in Japan, is a top-of-the-line offering featuring premium features throughout including Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers, USA-made CTS pots and premium tone caps, and Edwards' proprietary “Lacquer Taste” nitro lacquer finish. This model also features factory aging on the hardware and lacquer finish.
Tonewoods include a one-piece mahogany body with a carved maple top and highly figured bookmatched flame veneer, and a one-piece mahogany neck capped with a bound rosewood fretboard, ensuring a rich natural acoustic resonance and sonic authority. The stock Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers were designed to be faithful replicas of Seth Lover’s original PAF pickups as possible, including being wound on Seymour’s original Leesona winding machine from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo. The neck pickup is warm and articulate; highly responsive and balanced with a slightly scooped midrange to ensure optimal clarity. The bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter (metering at 8.4k ohms as opposed to the neck pickup’s 7.6k ohms) for added brightness and balance, with a tight low end, perfect for sweet, sonorous melodic playing. Both pickups take gain exceptionally well for thick overdriven textures, while remaining clear and responsive. Extremely lightweight for an LP-style guitar at just 7lbs 2oz, this Edwards has been professionally setup here at Mike & MIke’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck features a moderately chunky C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder in all registers, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and 1.025” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 12” radius and features pearloid trapezoid inlay and medium jumbo fretwire. The frets have plenty of meat with well-rounded crowns, only displaying light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-9. This guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The carved bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock features the iconic “open book” shape and “Limited Model” gold silkscreen script. The Kluson-style single line “Deluxe”-stamped tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.
The electronics all function as intended, with the Seymour Duncan Antiquity humbuckers wired to the traditional LP control layout including a three-way pickup selector toggle and individual Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup. The harness features premium tone caps and USA-made 500k CTS pots that date to the 26th week of 2008. The ABR-1-style bridge and corresponding stoptail have light surface patina as part of the Edwards factory aging process, and plastics include the original quartet of amber bonnet knobs and single-ply pickguard.
This guitar has Edwards’ proprietary “Lacquer Taste” nitro lacquer finish on top of a thin poly sealer coat, highlighting tight curly tiger flame that extends liberally across the top, which features a '50s-style deep dish top carve. While it's always a challenge to separate factory relic'ing from genuine playwear, suffice it to say that this guitar has seen some honest use, with numerous dings on the edges of the burst on top, and also along the back body edge, as well as prominent buckle rash across the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate, and feels smooth and exceedingly comfortable in the palm.
The original ESP-branded gigbag is included, along with the original Japanese warranty and owner’s manual.
