Up for sale, a 2007 Hamer USA Standard Custom in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case, CoA, and hangtags. Among the first designs ever produced by Hamer and perhaps most famous for its association with Rick Nielsen, the iconic and much-lauded Standard has remained relatively unchanged since its introduction in 1974. This top-notch modern iteration, hand-built in the USA, features a highly figured bookmatched flame maple top and matching headstock veneer.

Tonewoods include a solid Honduran mahogany body capped by a bookmatched flame maple top and a Honduran mahogany set neck with a bound rosewood fretboard. This guitar has a warm, resonant acoustic profile, with the inherent articulation of maple, faithfully captured by the pickups. The stock Seymour Duncan neck position humbucker is firmly in PAF territory, with full, rich lows, singing highs, and a slight midrange scoop for optimal clarity whether clean or with gain. The bridge pickup has been upgraded to a Bare Knuckle Mule, also built and voiced as a faithful reproduction of a late ‘59 PAF with vintage-correct touches including 42 AWG plain enamel wire, a solid nickel silver baseplate, butyrate bobbins, maple spacers, nickel-plated slugs, and Fillister no.5 pole screws. In contrast with traditional Alnico II magnet construction, the Alnico IV magnets in the Mule offer snappier bass response and fuller mids for a slightly more aggressive, punchier sound. This Hamer weighs 9lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The three-piece Honduran mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders in all registers, measuring .855” deep at the 1st fret and .960” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard is framed by grained ivoroid binding and features pearloid trapezoid inlays, with fret-edge binding on the flawless stock medium fretwire. This Hamer plays cleanly up the 24 3/4“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports a matching flame maple veneer, and the stock Schaller tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with gleaming chrome plating.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the humbuckers governed by independent Volume knobs and a Master Tone control. The chrome-plated Tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar, and pickup cover are notably clean, and plastics comprise the cream pickup rings and original trio of black bonnet knobs. The vintage-accurate solid nickel silver cover for the Bare Knuckle Mule bridge pickup is present in the case, along with the original box.

The gloss Red Transparent finish highlights the tight, dimensional figuring across the bookmatched flame maple top. This is a notably well-kept Hamer, with cosmetic wear limited to few faint marks on top, north of the bass-side tailpiece stud and at the treble-side waist, as well as a handful of very faint scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Hamer-branded hardshell case with molded interior is included, along with the factory hangtags, CoA, and Bare Knuckle Mule box. The CoA dates production to Nov. 9th, 2007, and is signed by Frank Untermyer and Jol Dantzig.
