Up for sale, a 2007 Gibson Memphis ES-335 Dot in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with a hardshell case. A discontinued iteration of the ES-335 platform, this guitar was crafted at Gibson's lauded and now shuttered Memphis, TN factory and captures many iconic early specs of the ES-335. Tonewoods include maple/poplar/maple semi-hollow body construction with a maple center block and spruce bracing, paired with a one-piece mahogany neck and bound rosewood fretboard with dot inlay.
The '57 Classic PAF humbuckers give this ES-335 a smooth bass register, tailored midrange, and sweet, articulate trebles, consistent with Gibson's golden era vintage "Patent Applied For" pickups. The pickups have ample clarity and power, with a slightly hotter bridge pickup and a sweet, round neck position humbucker that has great bloom and complex harmonic content. Lightweight at only 8lbs 3oz, this ES-335 Dot has a defined and balanced acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups, and it's easy to see why the ES-335 has historically been one of Gibson's most versatile models, adopted by a wide range of genres for its ability to provide everything from nuanced cleans to rich, powerful drive. The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender ‘60s-style C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders in every register and more heft up the fretboard, feeling both substantial and fast, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .990" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and vintage-correct .100" x .45" fretwire, shy of medium jumbo yet offering ample crown. The frets exhibit only light wear beneath B and High E strings on frets 3-7, playing cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock is fitted with nickel-plated Grover Rotomatic tuners.
On the body, all of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The '57 Classic PAF stickers are intact on the pickup baseplates, with additional dated stickers from '07. The neck pickup route reveals the vintage-spec long tenon joint too. The nickel-plated hardware is notably clean on the ABR-1 bridge and lightweight zinc stopbar tailpiece. Plastics include the quartet of black bonnet knobs and four-ply wide bevel pickguard.
The Vintage Sunburst two-tone gloss nitro lacquer finish highlights ripples of curly flame figuring that extend across the body. There are some pinhead-sized nicks on top, pick scuffing across the guard, light buckle wear central to the waist, and a few additional minor marks on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss.
An aftermarket black tolex hardshell case is included.
