Up for sale, a 2007 Fender American Vintage '62 Jaguar in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A discontinued model, this Jaguar is finished in gloss Olympic White nitro lacquer, upgraded with Lollar pickups, a custom lead circuit control plate and switching, and a Mustang-style bridge.
Tonally, this Jag delivers the goods, and the upgraded boutique Lollar pickups feature black fiber bobbins and flat-pole alnico magnets. The Lollars are particularly glassy and articulate, with the slightly aggressive chime and sinewy snarl that sets this model apart. Offering plenty of sparkling cut and percussive snap, this Jaguar is quite versatile. Engage the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower body horn for darker, meatier tones, or flip the "strangle" switch in the Lead Circuit for thinner tic-tac sounds. Top it off with more chrome than a Cadillac and a flip-up string mute and you have the model that was Fender's flagship guitar when it was introduced in '62, with every bell and whistle Leo Fender and his team could think to include. This Jaguar weighs 8lbs 14oz, with a clear, chiming acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Offset Fender instruments, this Jag is dialed in to perfection and strung with 11-48 roundwound strings.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve with an effortless feel, moderate shoulder, and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .925" at the 12th. The slab Indian rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark cut of this tonewood, featuring original vintage-style fretwire with well-rounded crowns and virtually no wear. The guitar boasts a traditional 7 1/4" fretboard radius and plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The 24" scale makes bending and chord extensions a breeze, and the nut measures 1 5/8" in width. On the headstock, the Jaguar waterslide decal is intact, and a set of upgraded Kluson-style Gotoh tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well. On the neck heel and in the pocket, all 2007 date stamps are present along with all requisite additional factory markings.
All of the electronics work as they should, and the upgraded boutique Lollar pickups are upgraded to a modified control array with a custom hexagonal control plate that features a three-way Gibson-style toggle and separate two-way "strangle" switch. The copious chrome plating on the hardware shows sparingly little wear, and the flip-up string mute is paired with an upgraded Mustang-style bridge. The vibrato works extremely well for small surfy shimmies or deeper dives, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and setup so that there's proper break angle between the bridge and tailpiece for optimal stability and minimal string slippage. Plastics include an upgraded mint green pickguard and the original pair of knobs.
The nitro lacquer Olympic White finish is notably mottled, pushing beyond yellowing for more of a "toasted" look. Cosmetic wear includes light vertical lacquer checking, some minor finish chipping on the treble side edge of the neck pocket, darker scuffs central to the back, and some scattered dings on the body parameter, mostly on the treble side lower bout edge. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered nitro gloss finish with no palm wear.
The original Fender brown tolex G&G hardshell case is included.
