Up for sale, a 2007 Fender Aerodyne Special Stratocaster model AST-DMC SSH in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. Among the rarest of the Aerodyne Strats, this non-catalog model features a SSH pickup configuration, Flame Red-finished bookmatched bound maple top and two-piece alder body. The top is also contoured in classic “drop top” fashion, making it notably ergonomic for the player.

This Strat comes loaded with a factory trio of DiMarzio Collection pickups. The two single coils are Heavy Drive DCS-2s, which deliver ample single coil sparkle with a rich, broad midrange and plenty of low end warmth. They’re high output for single coils; the neck pickup meters at 7.6k ohm and the middle meters 8.1k. The bridge pickup is sharp and aggressive, with focused low end, metering at a particularly hot 16.8k ohms. All three pickups take gain very well, remaining articulate and punchy. This Aerodyne Strat weighs 8lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .880” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a modern 9 1/2” radius with flawless medium fretwire. This Strat plays cleanly in all registers with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The scale length is 25 1/2”, and the stock bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The matching Flame Red headstock features Kluson-style tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the “Made in Japan” text and T-prefix serial are present above the contoured four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as intended, with a traditional Stratocaster control layout and five-way pickup selector switch. The guitar features a vintage-style Strat vibrato that anchors with six screws and is slightly recessed into the body, and the individual Fender-branded bridge saddles show only a touch of surface patina. Plastics comprise the three-ply pickguard and original trio of knobs. The figuring on the flame maple is tight and straight, extending evening across the top. This is an exceedingly well-kept example, with cosmetic wear limited to just a few faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
