Up for sale, a 2006 Yamaha Blue Jeans Custom Professional in showroom-clean condition and in perfect working order, complete with a flight case and hangtags. While the Blue Jeans Professional is a rare guitar in its own right, this “Custom Pro” is exceedingly rarer, with the “Terry and the Blue Jeans” engraved back plate typically reserved for the “Custom” tier of this model, and a distinctive flight case that doesn’t match standard production. Potentially made for the man himself, Takeshi Terauchi, the features of this model match no other documented examples.
A direct descendant of the legendary SG-7, the first “flying samurai” guitar was designed in conjunction with Japanese surf guitar legend Takeshi Terauchi, achieving a mythic status among Japanese surf guitarists that led to later reissues. Of those reissues, the Blue Jeans Custom Pro is among the finest ever made, boasting a high-precision tremolo, pair of single coil pickups, and an alluring gloss Red Sparkle finish accented by gold hardware.
Weighing 8lbs 15oz, tonewoods include an alder body with a maple neck capped by a bound rosewood fingerboard, and this guitar produces a smooth, balanced natural acoustic tone that’s faithfully captured by the single coil pickup pair. Metering ~7.6k ohms, these pickups deliver bold, sparkling cleans with plenty of meat and roundness, clear and defined in every position on the three-way switch with a smooth gradient between coils courtesy of the Blend knob. This Blue Jeans Custom Professional has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
