Up for sale, a 2006 Paul Reed Smith McCarty Soapbar 10 Top in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. As the President of Gibson during the golden era of guitar building (1950-1966), Ted McCarty was a pioneer of the electric guitar. In the late 1980’s, Paul Reed Smith called on Ted to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques, and in 1994 PRS released the first McCarty. An instrument that incorporates the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted, as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder, the PRS McCarty model pays homage to this legacy of innovation. The McCarty model features a slightly thicker mahogany back for enhanced tone and sustain, paired with a heavily figured flame maple "10 Top" finished in Blue Matteo.

The pair of soapbar P-90-style single coils deliver glassy articulation and midrange authority, offering both dynamic growl and cut in the bridge position and fatter, detailed sounds at the neck. This PRS weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The mahogany neck has PRS's Wide Fat profile carve, a full-feeling shape with nicely rounded but not overt shoulders, measuring .870" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has "birds in fight" inlay and original medium jumbo fretwire that shows very light wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-5, with wear extending more faintly beneath the G and B strings to fret 7. The guitar plays cleanly up the 25" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock features Kluson-style tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch reliably. The inked serial number and 10 Top designation is also present.

The electronics function as intended, with Master Volume and Tone knobs for the Soapbar pickup pair, along with a three-way pickup selector toggle. Hardware includes the wraparound compensated bridge which shows surface patina on the nickel plating. The Blue Matteo finish highlights the broad, deep flame figuring which extends across every inch of the carved maple top. Cosmetic wear includes a couple targeted areas of buckle rash on the back, and a few small nicks on top and additional light wear on the back and body perimeter. The neck profile gloss shows some small, shallow marks clustered behind frets 2-4, not distracting to the palm while fretting.

The original hardshell case, hangtag, and factory paperwork is included.
