Up for sale, a 2006 Mosrite Ventures Model "The Nokie" bass showroom-clean, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Rare beyond rare, this instrument was produced by Fillmore in Japan. The 30th Anniversary being commemorated and referenced on the headstock and pickguard is when Noriyuki Yusa began his relationship with Semie Moseley in 1976, importing Mosrites from the USA via his store, Fillmore. Fillmore would of course later be an official Mosrite manufacturer in Japan, and this bass was made to compliment the Nokie Edwards Ventures Model guitar. While the guitars with the Nokie branding from the 30th Anniversary run do surface occasionally, the basses are virtually non-existent, and one would be hard pressed to find even a single reference photo.
A short scale affair with a 30 1/2" scale length, this Mosrite is strung with 45-105 roundwound strings, and the basswood body (just like the original '60 Ventures Models) offers a smooth, even-sounding tonal platform for the pair of single coil pickups. Delivering growl and round punch, the pickups offer a distinctive tonal response and ideal thump. The bass weighs 9lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .835" deep just beyond the volute and .880" at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard features fretwire just shy of medium jumbo in width, with good meat and well-rounded crowns, showing no wear. The bass plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The fretboard width is 1 5/8" at the zero fret, just forward of the aluminum nut, and the headstock has nickel-plated clover button tuning machines.
The electronics function as intended, with pickups that meter at 7.5k ohms, governed by Master Volume and Tone controls with smooth knobs and a three-way pickup selector switch. The controls are mounted to a Blue Sparkle metalflake-finished pickguard, and the pair of smooth (non-embossed) pickup covers are finished to match. Hardware includes a four-saddle bridge with roller saddles and combination aluminum/rosewood stoptail. The bass is virtually unplayed with barely a scratch on it.
The original black tolex Mosrite hardshell case is included.
