Up for sale, a 2006 Martin D-42 Peter Frampton “Frampton’s Camel” Signature Edition in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and framed commemorative poster. This exceedingly rare Martin signature model was produced in very limited quantities, with only 76 instruments made (possibly in reference to Frampton Comes Alive! being released in 1976), and the label is hand-signed both by Frampton and C.F. Martin IV.
Inspired by a Martin D-45 purchased in 1971 by Frampton, which was used extensively during the writing and recording process of the Frampton's Camel album (named after his touring band), this D-42 is not a recreation but more of a tribute. Features include an Adirondack spruce top with forward-shifted, scalloped 5/16” X-bracing, East Indian rosewood back and sides, a bound African black ebony fingerboard and bridge, camel headstock inlay, and genuine camel bone bridge pins.
This D-42 yields a tone that's crisp, woody and detailed with an authoritative strum. Sweet, pillowy and articulate when played lighter, this Martin has excellent note definition and string-to-string clarity. The low strings have a high volume ceiling with limited compression, offering the boom and kick associated with a Martin dreadnought, while the trebles are glassy and sparkling. This D-42 weighs 4lbs 8oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
