Up for sale, a 2006 Martin Custom Shop 0000-18, near-mint and 100% original condition, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. This premium, custom-built iteration of Martin’s uncommon 0000-18 model was ordered by Gruhn Guitars, designed by George Gruhn to emulate Golden Era spec, essentially the progenitor of Gruhn’s 2018 sinker mahogany series of custom-built Martins. Features include an X-braced Adirondack spruce top, mahogany back/sides, Modified V neck profile, ebony fingerboard with 14 frets clear of the body, 1 3/4“ nut width, bone nut and saddle, and Waverly tuning machines.
Sporting the “M” body shape (16” wide at lower bout, just 3 7/8“ deep), this 0000-18 is really a “best of both worlds” instrument, splitting the difference between the robust power of a dreadnought and the detailed sweetness of an auditorium-bodied instrument for a Martin that is equally well-suited for big strums as it is for gentle fingerpicking. There’s surprising low end power on tap, broad without being boomy, and the trebles are crisp and immediate, standing up well to the guitar’s overall breadth. This Custom Shop 0000-18 weighs 4lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
