Up for sale, a 2006 Martin 000-28EC Eric Clapton signature left-handed model in near mint condition, complete with the original hardshell case and all factory paperwork. Perhaps Martin's most enduringly popular artist model, the 000-28EC boasts a solid Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and solid ebony bridge and fretboard. The herringbone marquetry on the top and soundhole mirror Martin's Pre-War models, and the fretboard has shell snowflake inlay. This particular instrument has been very well cared for since new and the past 15+ years have allowed the guitar to open up tonally, with a warmth and sweetness not necessarily achievable with a new instrument.

The 000-28 model is an ideal model for stage and studio work, with a body size that's more manageable than a dreadnought, and a powerful and clear tone. Even a light strum yields incredible projection, and as you dig in the volume increases dramatically, responding to picking dynamics and delivering crisp, even tones while fingerpicking as well. More focused in the midrange than a dreadnought but still yielding plenty of low end, the 000-28EC has a detailed and pure sound. This guitar weighs 4lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with easy-playing action and 12-53 bronze strings.

The mahogany neck has a pronounced V-shaped profile carve, measuring .875" deep at the 1st fret and .999" at the 9th. The ebony fretboard has slender fretwire with its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The instrument plays cleanly up the 24.9" scale with a straight neck, and the nut measures 1 3/4" in width. On the headstock, the Martin logo is clean on the rosewood veneer, and the open-back Grover-made, Martin-branded tuning machines with butterbean buttons turn very smoothly and hold pitch well with clean nickel plating.

On the body, the ebony bridge is fitted with the original compensated saddle, and while quite low, the saddle offers comfortable action in every register, with string height measuring 8/64” on the bass side measured at the 12th fret and 6/64” on the treble side. The hand-numbered Eric Clapton label is visible through the soundhole, and the model and serial number info is clearly stamped in the usual spot on the heel block.

The guitar and case both have a prominent smokey smell, and there's barely a scratch on the gloss nitro lacquer finish. The finish on the neck profile is similarly pristine.

The original Martin hardshell case is included, along with all original factory paperwork.
