Up for sale, a 2006 Line 6 Variax 700 electric guitar in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag, footswitch, cables, and paperwork. Crafted at the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, the Variax 700 features a carved ash top, solid mahogany body, maple neck with slab rosewood fretboard, and a vast array of detailed instrument modeling options.
Piezo bridge pickups capture each individual string’s vibrations, processing the signals through software algorithms that capture the physical and electronic properties of the selected model. This process dynamically alters Variax’s own natural string vibrations to match the modeled instrument's unique tonal characteristics. That means there’s no delay caused by having to detect a pitch and turn it into a MIDI note, and there’s also no issue with tracking bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, or any other nuances that are key to your style. Plus, since Variax delivers its uncannily accurate sounds without the use of traditional magnetic pickups, it isn't susceptible to hum from fluorescent lights or computer monitors. This Variax weighs 8lbs 10oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile with slight shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard features oval abalone inlay and pristine stock slender fretwire. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted truss rod and 10” fretboard radius. The scale length is 25 1/2“, and the nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. The headstock features a chrome Line 6 logo, Variax truss rod cover, and set of Gotoh tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, controls include a five-way pickup selector switch, Master Volume and Tone knobs, and push/pull Mode Select Knob. Each of the 10 positions on the Mode Select Knob offer five distinct sounds via the five-way “pickup” selector switch. The selector works exactly as you expect in regards to the selected models. With a three pickup model, like Spank (Stratocaster) for instance, all five positions will duplicate those on the modeled instrument. In more common two pickup models, positions 1, 3, and 5 will give you the characteristic sounds of a three-way switch, while the “in-between” positions (2 and 4) can provide that distinct “quack” associated with Strats. The other two positions of the Model Select Knob, Custom 1 and Custom 2, save and recall your own custom setups. Connections include a standard 1/4“ instrument out and a digital I/O jack, while the included direct box footswitch provides power plus 1/4" standard guitar and XLR balanced outputs.
Cosmetically, this guitar is near mint, with gleaming chrome hardware and the original L.R. Baggs tremolo bridge, complete with the original arm. As a testament to how little this guitar has been played since new, the clear factory protective plastic is still intact on the rear control covers. The pristine gloss Translucent Red finish displays the grain of the ash top and mahogany body, and the neck sports an equally flawless smooth gloss finish.
The original padded gigbag, footswitch, cables, and factory paperwork are included.
