2006 Gibson Explorer '76 Vintage Reissue Guitar Alpine White w/ Ebony Board, Case & Hangtag

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 2006 Gibson Explorer '76 vintage reissue model in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtag. Via the original 496R and 500T humbucker pair, the guitar has plenty of power on tap, and these ceramic magnet pickups are focused and cutting, pushing an amp hard with ample punch and bass-register clarity, ideal for high gain scenarios. The radically shaped solid mahogany body adds inherent warmth and fullness to the sound too, and the ebony fretboard is an unusual option that ensures a glassy, immediate treble response. The guitar weighs a modest 8lbs 10oz, with healthy natural sustain and a rich acoustic resonance that translates well through the humbuckers. This Explorer has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a slender, fast-feeling C-shaped profile carve with moderate shoulder at the nut and a hair more overall roundness and heft further up the fretboard, measuring .805" deep at the 1st fret and .875" at the 12th. The ebony fretboard has a 12" radius and features the original practically perfect medium frets with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing only a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and ideally adjusted, responsive truss rod. The nut measures 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock retains the original mini Grover Rotomatic tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume controls for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The humbuckers have "Gibson USA"-embossed baseplates, and the wiring harness features Gibson-branded Alpha pots. The hardware has gleaming chrome plating, and original plastics comprise black speed knobs and the white three-ply pickguard.

The Alpine White nitro lacquer finish exhibits some faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back and to an even lesser extent on the top, with one tiny dot of isolated finish yellowing at the bass-side waist edge on top. The rear control cavity cover even retains its protective factory film, indicative of the limited use this guitar has seen since new. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

The original black tolex hardshell case is included, along with the serialized hangtag.
