Up for sale, a 2006 G&L SB-2 near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A USA-made iteration of the SB-2 platform, this full scale PJ Bass is complete with the original hardshell case, COA, and all factory paperwork.
As the third instrument company founded by Leo Fender, G&L's instruments benefit from Leo's decades of experience at Music Man and (of course) Fender. Tonewoods include a solid ash body, maple neck, and slab ebony fingerboard, yielding a natural acoustic tone that offers the midrange authority of ash paired with the glassy treble articulation of ebony. With a pair of Volume knobs governing the MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickup pair, the bass delivers the broad thump and authority of the split coil P pickup, with plenty of power and midrange fullness from the bridge pickup which has more breadth and power than a traditional J single coil. Weighing 10lbs 10oz, this G&L bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with roundwound 45-100 strings, accurate intonation, and comfortable action.
The maple neck has a medium depth U-shaped neck profile carve at the nut, with moderate shoulder as you travel up the fretboard and lightly rolled fretboard edges in every register, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .955” at the 12th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features side dots for easy navigation and original frets that show sparingly little wear. The bass plays effortlessly in all registers up the straight neck with an ideally adjusted and responsive truss rod. The bass features a full 34" scale length, and the slender 1 1/2" nut width typically attributed to Jazz Bass models. The headstock features lightweight Hipshot clover button tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The neck heel and pocket feature various factory notes and a 2006 date stamp.
The stock electronics work as they should, with individual Volume controls for each pickup. Hardware includes the heavy duty bridge with gleaming chrome plating that shows just a faint speckling of surface patina. Wear on the gloss Black body finish is limited to one small chip at the corner of the neck pocket, and a few extremely faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back. The satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black molded G&L hardshell case is included, along with all factory paperwork and the COA with matching serial number.
