Up for sale, a 2008 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue model PB70-US in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An uncommon model, this bass features a factory installed Fender American Standard split coil P Bass pickup, along with a few select vintage touches including a block logo on the headstock, proper thumb rest placement, and black pickguard. One welcome deviation from vintage spec is a thick slab rosewood fretboard (as opposed to a thinner veneer board seen on actual vintage examples). With an alder body as its sonic foundation, this bass delivers the goods with strong thump and excellent articulation. The bass weighs 9lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.
Crafted in Japan, this discontinued model is rarely seen outside its country of origin. The quality construction of Fender Japan's instruments provide stiff competition for Fender's vintage-centric USA reissue instrument lines (arguably in large part why they aren't offered in the USA), and this '70 Precision model meets the high bar befitting Fender Japan's reputation.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius with flawless medium jumbo fretwire. The bass plays cleanly in up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock, the tuners have the correct vintage footprint with large chrome clover-shaped keys. The "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
All of the electronics work as intended, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness and governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. Hardware includes the flat-top knurled knobs and bridge with steel barrel saddles. The knobs and bridge base both have notably clean chrome plating. The three-ply black pickguard and black thumb rest round out the plastics. The gloss Olympic White finish is notably bright and un-yellowed, with cosmetic wear limited to one chip on the treble-side lower bout edge and just a handful of microscopic dings and faint scratches on the body as a whole. The lightly-ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine.
A brown faux leather gigbag is included.
