Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Precision Bass '70 vintage reissue model in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. While one would expect that a Natural-finished, ash-bodied Precision would be standard fare for Fender Japan, this is actually a particularly rare non-catalog model. Officially model PB70-93US, this bass features a factory-installed Fender American Standard split coil P Bass pickup, along with a few select vintage touches including a block logo on the headstock, properly positioned thumb rest, and black pickguard. Tonally, this bass delivers the goods, with the midrange punch and complexity of ash as a tonewood, and the glassy articulation and note attack of the maple fingerboard. There's a strong fundamental thump to the tone, and the roundwound strings provide plenty of top end detail. The bass is lightweight at 8lbs 3oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a comfortable medium C shaped profile with lots of shoulder and heft, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The maple cap slab fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4" radius, and the original medium jumbo fretwire retains its full factory height, showing virtually no wear with well-rounded crowns. The bass plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock, the tuners have the correct vintage footprint with large chrome clover-shaped keys. Above the four-bolt F neck plate, the "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial number are present. All of the electronics work as they should, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness. The chrome-plated bridge and knurled knobs are positively gleaming, with just a hint of patina on the tuners, and the three-ply black pickguard has just a few faint pick scuffs. The Natural finish highlights the broad, dynamic grain of the ash body, with barely a scratch on it. The neck profile is flawless, with the finish brought down from a high gloss to a smooth, almost satin semi-gloss that's very inviting and fast-feeling.The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
