Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Precision Bass ‘62 vintage reissue model PB62 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This “Crafted in Japan” iteration of the ‘62 Precision platform was produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, rarely seen outside its country of origin. Tonewoods include a basswood body and maple neck capped by a thick slab rosewood fretboard.

This PB62 succeeds in delivering the articulation, warmth, and fundamental thump that define the Precision tone. The bass is a medium weight example at 9lbs, offering the sonic richness that has been the signature of this model for decades, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 strings, comfortable action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full, inviting shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this tonewood with a 7 1/4” vintage-spec radius and stock slender fretwire that's remarkably clean with its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, showing just a hint of wear on frets 2-3. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 42.5mm (just a hair under 1 11/16”) in width. On the headstock, the nickel-plated tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch with clover buttons that display only a light dusting of patina. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the split coil pickup governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. Hardware includes the flat-top knurled knobs and bridge with barrel saddles, all of which have bright chrome plating. Plastics include the three-ply dark brown glossy tortoise pickguard which displays some requisite scuffing along the pick path. This is a well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish limited to a few faint finish scratches and tiny dings on the body as a whole. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is similarly clean.
