Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Precision Bass '62 vintage reissue model PB62-53 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order with a Lake Placid Blue custom color finish. Looking to capture the magic that made the early 1960s P Bass so beloved, Fender Japan released this '62 reissue with the same cosmetic appointments, boasting the warmth, articulation and fundamental thump that defines the Precision tone. The bass features a basswood body, maple neck and slab rosewood fretboard, offering a smooth, tonally balanced and resonant acoustic platform. The bass weighs 8lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with roundwound 45-105 strings, easy-playing action and spot-on intonation.
Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this model pairs a custom color Lake Placid Blue finish with a deep reddish brown glossy tortoise pickguard. The quality is exceptional, and the "Crafted in Japan" instruments exemplify the attention to detail and dedication on the part of Fender Japan to deliver instruments that have both an alluring vintage look and tone to match.
The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .960" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius, with slender vintage-style frets that show virtually no wear with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. This bass is very easy and rewarding to play, and the instrument frets cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and optimally adjusted truss rod. The bone nut measures 42.5mm (1.675") in width. On the headstock, the vintage-style clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well, and the face of the headstock has a classic Pre-CBS style "spaghetti" logo. The "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
The traditional electronics work as they should, with the original pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone controls with knurled metal knobs. The chrome plating on the hardware is particularly clean, and the dark reddish brown tortoise pickguard exhibits some modest upwards warping just north of the pickup, yet not interfering with the pick path.
The Lake Placid Blue finish, officially abbreviated as OLB for "Old Lake Placid Blue," is meant to approximate a more icy, vintage-correct iteration of this Fender custom color. There is fairly deep buckle wear across the back, yet not through the finish, along with a few finish scratches and small dings, nearly all relegated to the back. The ambered finish on the neck profile is flawless.
A gigbag is included.
