Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Mustang Bass model MD98-SD in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Crafted in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful and discontinued reissue of the classic short scale Fender model with a factory installed split coil USA-made Seymour Duncan pickup. Finished in gloss Sunburst, this iteration of the Mustang Bass was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that fills out the low end nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass. More aggressive and midrange forward than a P, this Mustang Bass is strung with roundwound 45-100 strings, delivering an articulate top end and a touch of growl. The instrument is also particularly lightweight at only 7lbs 11oz, dialed in here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck features a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut with nicely rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges in every register, offering more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a particularly dark cut of this tonewood, retaining the original practically perfect slender frets. The bass plays cleanly up the 30" scale with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut width measures 1 1/2". On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly with bright chrome plating, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is on the headstock face. The "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial is present above the four-bolt F neck plate. The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls to govern the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome bridge and control plate have positively gleaming plating, and the white pearloid pickguard contrasts with the three-tone Sunburst gloss finish. Cosmetic wear is limited to some finish scratches at the bass-side waist on the back and a singular finish chip on the back bass-side lower bout body edge. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
