Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Jazz Bass ‘62 vintage reissue in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with gigbag and hangtags. This 1962 reissue Jazz Bass (officially model JB62-66) was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside of its country of origin.
The “Crafted in Japan” instruments are known for their high quality craftsmanship, and the tonewood complement includes a basswood body and maple neck with a slab rosewood fretboard. The natural acoustic tone is balanced and relatively neutral with healthy sustain. The stock pickups are a pair of JB Vintage single coils with plenty of midrange presence and the articulate growl synonymous with the classic Jazz Bass sound. Rolling back the Tone control produces plenty of low-end thump. Weighing 9lbs, this Jazz Bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a moderately slender U-shaped profile carve at the nut, with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges in every register, measuring .830” deep at the 1st fret and .970” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and slender fretwire. The frets are in exceptional condition, with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns, with just a touch of wear on frets 1-2. The bass plays comfortably in every register up the 34” scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2” in width. The headstock sports the correct ‘62-style Fender Jazz Bass decal and original clover button tuning machines which turn smoothly, hold accurate pitch, and have light surface patina on the chrome plating. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate.
On the body, all the electronics work as they should, with the pickups governed by the Jazz Bass-standard Volume/Volume/Tone controls. The chrome plating on the bridge and control plate shines like new, and the three-ply white pickguard still has the protective factory film on it, representative of the sparingly little wear this bass has seen since new. Cosmetic wear is almost nonexistent, with just a couple exceedingly faint finish scratches and a tiny nick or two on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original Fender-branded gigbag is included, along with the original hangtags and Japanese bill of sale.
