Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Aerodyne Precision Bass model APB-105DMC in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags. An exceedingly rare model in an even rarer "Flame Lake Blue" gloss finish, this Aerodyne Precision Bass model is from Fender Japan's top tier (and long ago discontinued) Dimarzio Collection. The bass boasts a slender contoured two-piece alder body capped with a bound and bookmatched flame maple cap, paired with a maple neck and thick slab rosewood fretboard. The instrument has a smooth, clear natural acoustic tone, channeled through the USA-made Dimarzio Heavy Drive split coil pickup for both sweet treble grind and thick thump with the Tone knob rolled back to taste. The bass weighs 8lbs 6oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a very fast-feeling slender C profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .955" at the 12th. The dark rosewood slab fretboard retains the original flawless fretwire, just shy of medium jumbo in size with ample height and crown. The bass plays easily up the full 34" scale length with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut is a slender and easily navigable 1 9/16" in width, and the matching transparent blue headstock features vintage-style clover button tuners that turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The "Crafted in Japan" text and S-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.
Both the top and back of the body are contoured, with a very subtle “drop top” curvature on the bass side of the top for greater forearm comfort, as well as a slight belly contour and slimmer edges relative to the central “core” of the body. It's an extremely ergonomic and player-friendly shape, complete with a contoured neck heel. The bridge is recessed into the top, and the Dimarzio Collection pickup features clean silkscreened text on the cover.
The gloss Flame Lake Placid Blue finish is representative of the deeper blues categorized as "Lake Placid" by Fender Japan, yet with optimal transparency to highlight the prominent bookmatched flame figuring on top, creating a chevron effect between the pickguard and bridge. There are just a few light finish scratches and nicks on the body as a whole, and light strap wear into the gloss on the lower bout body edge just beyond the rear strap button has resulted in a more matte texture to the finish in this area. The satin-finished neck profile is smooth on the palm, with wear limited to just a couple minor marks behind frets 3-5.
The original hangtag with matching serial is included, along with the original Fender-branded padded gigbag.
