Up for sale, a 2006 Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass model AJB in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. A “Crafted in Japan” model sold exclusively within the Japanese domestic market, this Aerodyne is unique both visually and sonically; featuring a PJ pickup configuration, bound body, satin-finished neck, and matching headstock.

While most Fender basses that have the PJ pickup configuration use a Precision-style body, this Aerodyne has the sleek looks and comfortable 1 1/2" nut width of the Jazz Bass, providing both the ample thump and heft of a split coil Precision neck pickup and the midrange cut and articulation of a Jazz pickup at the bridge. Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck, and thick slab rosewood fretboard. This bass weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium U-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, gaining more heft and roundness in the upper registers, measuring .840” deep at the 1st fret and .990” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius and flawless slender fretwire. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2“ in width. The headstock features chrome-plated clover-button tuners which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and S-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The chrome Strat-style knobs, control plate, and bridge all have plenty of shine with just a faint dusting of surface patina on the barrel saddles. A replacement smoke gray pearloid pickguard rounds out the plastics.

The gloss Black finish is framed on top by cream binding, with cosmetic wear limited to some small nicks clustered on the bass-side body horn on top and adjacent to the bridge pickup, some very light buckle rash on the back, and a handful of minor dings on the lower bout perimeter. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile has been buffed to a semi-gloss through play, with just one shallow mark behind fret 6 that isn't distracting to the palm while fretting.

The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
