Up for sale, a 2006 Epiphone by Gibson Les Paul Special Lacquer Series in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag. Crafted exclusively for the Japanese domestic market at the Fujigen factory alongside the top shelf Elitist line, this Les Paul Special was part of the very limited Lacquer Series run. Authorized by Gibson, this LP Special features the iconic “open book” headstock shape with proper 17 degree pitch, P-90 pickups, a long neck tenon, and a nitro lacquer Cherry gloss finish.
Tonewoods include a solid mahogany body and a mahogany neck capped by a bound rosewood fretboard. Tonally, the stock P90s work in tandem with the mahogany construction to deliver a distinctive warm growl and midrange heft; offering dynamic, glassy clean tones and rich, overdriven roar. This LP Special is featherweight at just 6lbs 14oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and spot-on intonation.
The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with full, inviting shoulders, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .975” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard retains the flawless stock medium fretswire. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The stock bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The “open book” headstock sports gold silkscreen Les Paul script and a vertical “Gibson”-embossed truss rod cover, with Kluson-style tuners that turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pair of original P-90 pickups wired to full-size 500k pots. The guitar features a traditional Les Paul control array with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup, and the control cavity is shielded from the factory to ensure a low noise floor. Plastics include the four-ply black pickguard and original quartet of black bonnet knobs. The ABR-1 bridge and corresponding stopbar have clean nickel plating. This is a well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the nitro lacquer Cherry Red gloss finish limited to a few finish scratches and pinhead-sized dings on the body as a whole. The gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine.
The original Epiphone-branded padded gigbag is included.
