Up for sale, a 2006 Conde Hermanos Felipe V No. 2 Model A28 flamenco guitar in near-mint condition, complete with a molded hardshell case. The Madrid-based Conde dynasty began in 1915 with master luthier Domingo Esteso, who was succeeded by his nephews (and pupils), Mariano Sr., Faustino and Julio Conde. Eventually Mariano’s sons Felipe and Mariano Jr. took over the business, and their masterfully crafted flamenco and classical guitars are still produced in Madrid to this day, played by luminaries including Pacco De Lucia, Mario Escudero, Sabicas, Al Di Meola, and John Williams. This Model A28 was produced just a few years prior to the family’s split in 2010 (after which the brothers opened their own workshops), and features a German spruce top paired with Spanish cypress back/sides.
The German spruce top features five-fan bracing (à la Antonio de Torres), allowing the soundboard to resonate freely for a crisp, open sound. The Spanish cypress back and sides yield a dry, clear tonal profile, exceptionally well-suited to flamenco applications. There’s a certain punchy and immediate quality to this A28, encouraged by the longer 664mm scale length, and while the lows are dark and pensive, the trebles are smooth and soaring, ensuring this Model A28 is very able-bodied for melodic playing. Weighing 3lbs 5oz, this Model A28 has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with normal tension strings and ideal action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: D, measuring .830” 1st fret, .885” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony
-Frets: Medium, no wear
-Scale Length: 664mm (26.14”)
-Nut: 52mm (2.05”), bone
-Tuners: Strip, pearloid buttons
Body Specs:
-Wood: German spruce, Spanish cypress
-Bracing: Five-fan
-Bridge: Rosewood, bone saddle
-String Spacing: 59mm (at bridge)
-Marquetry: Ornate rosette, three-ply purfling, rosewood binding
-Label: Dated 2006
This is a crack-free, well-kept example, with cosmetic wear on the gloss lacquer finish limited to a few dings on top just south of the bridge and just a couple tiny marks on the rims. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
A BAM molded hardshell case is included.
