Up for sale, a 2005 Taylor T5-C Custom in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This guitar was Taylor’s first full-on “electric” guitar (albeit an acoustic hybrid), featuring a hollow Sapele body with a Sitka spruce top, a mahogany neck, an ebony fretboard, and Taylor’s proprietary three-pickup design with active electronics.
Acoustically, this guitar is chiming and responsive, with a brassy shimmer and sweet, present trebles that ensure optimal articulation and dynamic feel. The lows are tight and warm, and there’s plenty of harmonic complexity. This T5-S features a trio of pickups: a T5 Dynamic hidden neck position pickup beneath the fretboard, an exposed T5 CMR air-coil humbucker in the middle position, and a patented T5 Dynamic body sensor mounted under the soundboard. There are unique sounds at all positions on the five-way selector switch, from more traditional electric sounds including humbucker heft and Gretsch-esque twang with the middle pickup engaged, to acoustic/electric-style immediacy and punch with the body sensor, to woody warmth at the hidden neck pickup. This Taylor weighs 5lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 11-49 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The mahogany neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders in every register, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .870” at the 12th. The bound ebony fingerboard features mother-of-pearl “artist” inlays (a feature unique to the Custom tier of T5s), and the slender fretwire is pristine. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the gold-plated Schaller-made and Taylor-branded tuning machines turn smoothly.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a five-way selector slider and Master Volume knob with Treble and Bass EQ controls on the top at the bass-side upper bout. The ebony bridge sits flush with the spruce top, and the compensated bone saddle has plenty of height for future adjustment. The serialized label is visible through the bass-side stylized F-hole. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Sunburst finish is limited to just a scant few tiny nicks on the body as a whole. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original hardshell case is included.
