Up for sale, a 2005 Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 “10 Top” 20th Anniversary Edition in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. PRS' most popular and enduring model since its introduction in '85, this Custom 24 features a bookmatched carved flame maple 10 Top finished in gloss Vintage Natural. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of PRS, this guitar was released with the special “Birds in Flight” fretboard inlay.A tremolo-equipped model with stock HFS and Vintage Bass humbuckers, this Custom 24 delivers articulate, singing tones with a very versatile five-way rotary pickup selector switch. The instrument has a clear, lively natural acoustic resonance and healthy sustain, qualities translated faithfully by the humbuckers. The bridge pickup has ample midrange warmth and percussive kick, metering 14.8k ohms, and the neck is airy and full, with ample treble clarity, metering 8.2k ohms. Weighing 7lbs 11oz, this PRS has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The mahogany neck has PRS' Wide Thin profile, a slender C-shaped carve with just enough roundness in the shoulders, measuring .810” deep at the 1st fret and .890” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut with a 10" radius, featuring Birds In Flight abalone inlay and stock medium jumbo fretwire. The frets are in great shape, with plenty of meat and well-rounded crowns, only showing a touch of light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-9. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16” in width. The truss rod cover is embossed with silver “20th” script, and on the back of the headstock, the inked serial number and "10" denoting the 10 Top is present. The chrome Schaller-built and PRS-branded locking tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. All of the electronics are stock and untouched, and the five-way rotary pickup selector switch works as follows:Position One: Bridge humbuckerPosition Two: Outside coilsPosition Three: Series single coils - warm version of the slinky “in-between” soundPosition Four: Parallel single coils - crisp version of the “in-between” soundPosition Five: Neck humbuckerThere’s light surface patina on the bridge, with wear through the nickel plating to the brass saddles on the bass side. Original plastics comprise the trio of knobs and cream pickup surrounds. The gloss Vintage Natural finish is a subtle application, highlighting the extremely tight, dimensional flame figuring on the bookmatched carved maple top. This is a well-kept example, with cosmetic wear limited to a handful of minor nicks and dings along the body perimeter, an area of faint buckle rash on the back, and a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back. The smooth gloss finish on the neck profile is practically perfect. The original hardshell case with black plush interior is included, along with the user manual. There are a few scuffs and tears in the black tolex, but the case is rugged and secure, with functional latches and the original handle.
