Up for sale, a 2005 Martin Limited Edition D-28 GE (Golden Era) in near-mint, 100% original condition, complete with the original hardshell case and factory paperwork. An extremely faithful recreation of Martin's circa 1937 D-28, this instrument is the gold standard for dreadnought tone, featuring an Adirondack spruce top with forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, bookmatched Brazilian rosewood back/sides, a Modified V neck, hot hide glue construction, Waverly tuning machines, herringbone purfling, and grained ivoroid binding.
The definition of “piano-like clarity” and pure dreadnought muscle, this D-28 GE has an expansive sound, detailed and powerful with a high volume ceiling. The wound strings are bold and sweet, while the trebles have sparkle and body. And while a modern Adirondack top can often take time to sound worked-in and relaxed like a vintage Martin, this particular example doesn’t sound remotely stiff. Weighing 4lbs 9oz, this Limited Edition D-28 GE benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany
-Shape: Modified V, measuring .880” 1st fret, .990” 9th fret
-Fretboard: Ebony, abalone notched square and diamond inlays
-Frets: Slender, no wear
-Scale Length: 25.4”
-Nut: 1 3/4”, bone
-Tuners: Waverly, open-gear
Body Specs:
-Wood: Adirondack spruce, Brazilian rosewood
-Bracing: Forward-shifted X, scalloped 5/16" spruce
-Bridge: Ebony belly, bone saddle (tall)
-Marquetry: Herringbone purfling, grained ivoroid binding
-Plastics: Tortoise pickguard
-Serialization: Limited edition label, stamp on heel block dates to 2005
The top has Martin’s Aging Toner, and while ostensibly a used instrument, there's barely a scratch on the guitar and even any pick wear is extremely sparing. The satin finish on the neck profile is flawless.
The original black tolex hardshell case and factory paperwork is included.
