Up for sale, a 2005 Ibanez JEM555 Steve Vai signature electric guitar in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. A discontinued model, the JEM555 features a basswood body with distinctive “Monkey Grip” handle, a three-piece maple neck, and elaborate Tree of Life vine inlay on the slab rosewood fretboard.
The HSH pickup array includes DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers and centrally located single coil, designed for maximum impact and power. The neck pickup is fat, punchy and loud, while the bridge is tight, aggressive and louder. Both pickups have DiMarzio’s dual-resonance configuration to reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers, while their excellent presence and definition help slice right through the densest mix. With five-way switching and the ability to pair the single coil with either humbucker for greater clarity and top-end snap, this JEM has a broad tonal spectrum, ideal for singing high gain or clear, complex-sounding cleans. The guitar weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh strings and slinky action.
The three-piece maple neck has a particularly slender and shred-worthy Wizard II D-shaped profile, relatively flat central to the carve with round shoulders, measuring .735" deep at the 1st fret and .820" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features Tree of Life inlay, Steve Vai inlay at the 24th fret, a pristine stock jumbo fretwire. The guitar plays effortlessly up the 25 1/2" scale with a straight neck, ideally adjusted truss rod, and Ibanez's All Access Neck Joint, contoured at the heel for unparalleled access to the highest frets. The fretboard radius is 17“, and the locking nut measures 1 11/16“ in width. The headstock features black chrome tuners and locking nut, ensuring optimal tuning stability with even the most extreme divebombs.
On the body, all of the electronics function flawlessly, with a five-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs governing the DiMarzio HSH pickup array. The Edge Pro II tremolo was manufactured by Gotoh for Ibanez, providing the fast response and snap you need to pull off sharp bends and flutters. A three-ply gray pearloid pickguard compliments the Black gloss body finish, and the factory clear protective plastic is still intact on the rear control cavity cover, a testament to how little this guitar has been played since new. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few faint finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss, mostly central to the back and on the tremolo cavity cover. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth satin finish, with a hint of birdseye figuring in the maple.
