Up for sale, a 2005 Gibson SG Standard Bass in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. Essentially a reissue of Gibson's EB-3 model, this is a first-year iteration of Gibson's modern SG Bass. Featuring solid mahogany construction, this bass is rich and resonant acoustically with a vintage-style TB Plus humbucker and TB mini humbucker. Both pickups are wax-potted and capture the classic tonal attributes of Gibson's '60s EB models. The TB plus humbucker in the neck is a traditional hum-cancelling bass pickup with a full frequency, bottom-heavy sound. The mini humbucker in the bridge position packs a sweet punch with exceptional midrange presence, accentuated by a fresh set of 45-105 roundwound strings. The bass weighs 7lbs 13oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and accurate intonation.
The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulder, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .920" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features stock slender fretwire which shows virtually no wear, playing effortlessly up the 30 1/2" scale. The nut measures 1 9/16" in width, and the headstock is fitted with original chrome-plated Grover tuners that turn smoothly with large clover buttons.
The electronics function as intended, with individual Volume knobs for each pickup and a Master Tone control. The hardware is bright and clean with just a speckling of surface patina, and all original plastics are intact. Not to be confused with later (and lesser) iterations of the SG Bass, this instrument features a gloss nitro lacquer Cherry finish. Cosmetic wear includes a small spot of targeted buckle rash at the treble-side waist, a few additional nicks and light finish scratches on the back, and one circular mark on the lower bout on top. The gloss on the neck profile is smooth and free of palm wear.
The original hardshell case and hangtags are included.
