Up for sale, a 2005 Gibson Memphis ES-335 Dot in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. A discontinued iteration of the ES-335 platform, this guitar was crafted at Gibson's lauded and now shuttered Memphis, TN factory and captures many iconic early specs of the ES-335. Tonewoods include figured curly maple semi-hollow construction with a maple center block and spruce bracing, paired with a one-piece mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard with dot inlay. The '57 Classic PAF humbuckers deliver a smooth bass register, tailored midrange, and sweet, articulate trebles, consistent with Gibson's golden era vintage "Patent Applied For" pickups. The pickups have ample clarity and power, with smooth growl in the bridge position and a sweet, round neck pickup that has great bloom and complex harmonic content. Weighing 9lbs 3oz, this ES-335 Dot has a defined and balanced acoustic voice that translates well through the pickups, and it's easy to see why the ES-335 has historically been one of Gibson's most versatile models, adopted by a wide range of genres for its ability to provide everything from nuanced cleans to rich, powerful drive. We've had this ES-335 professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with particularly round shoulders, shy of full ‘50s-style depth yet offering ideal substance, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and .890" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features dot inlay and flawless slender fretwire that has perfectly rounded crowns. The guitar plays cleanly up the 24 3/4" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures a full 1 11/16" in width, and the headstock is fitted with nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners. On the body, all of the electronics work as intended, with individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The '57 Classic PAF stickers are mostly intact on the pickup baseplates, and the neck pickup route reveals the vintage-spec long tenon joint too. The nickel-plated hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge and lightweight zinc stopbar tailpiece, showing uniform surface patina. Plastics include the quartet of black bonnet knobs and four-ply wide bevel pickguard which exhibits some requisite pick scuffing. The gloss nitro lacquer Cherry finish highlights curly maple figuring which extends evenly across the body, and cosmetic wear includes some buckle rash across the back, but not through the nitro gloss, and a few additional minor marks on the lower bout on top. There's also a tiny amount of finish chipping adjacent to the rear strap button. The neck retains its smooth gloss on the profile length, with just a few shallow marks that do not distract the palm while fretting. The original black tolex Gibson hardshell case is included.
