Up for sale, a 2005 Fender Precision Bass '62 vintage reissue in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this discontinued model (officially PB62-70US) is quite rare outside of Japan and 100% original. An upscale iteration of the '62 Precision platform, this bass features a USA-made pickup, vintage-spec spiral bridge saddles and long stem tuners, and an alder body. The quality is exceptional, and the "Crafted in Japan" instruments exemplify the attention to detail and dedication on the part of Fender Japan to deliver instruments that have both an alluring vintage look and tone to match.

Nothing screams quintessential bass tone like a Fender Precision. Looking to capture the magic that made the early 1960s split-coil P Bass so beloved, Fender Japan released this '62 reissue with the same cosmetic appointments, as well as the warmth, articulation and fundamental thump that defines the Precision tone. The bass weighs 8lbs 13oz, offering the sonic richness that has been the signature of this model for decades. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this bass is strung with roundwound 45-105 strings and plays well with comfortable action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round, inviting shoulders, lightly rolled fretboard edges, and a bit more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .845" deep at the 1st fret and graduating to .960" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark cut of this particular tonewood, featuring the original slender vintage-style frets that retain their full factory height, showing just a touch of wear beneath the A and D strings on frets 1-3. This bass is very rewarding to play, and notes ring out clearly in all registers with a straight neck. The nut has a 1 11/16" width, with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, and 34" scale length. On the headstock, the vintage-style clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with long stems and full-size vintage-spec baseplates, and the face of the headstock has a classic Pre-CBS style "spaghetti" logo. The back of the headstock even has a third strap button, keeping this instrument period correct right down to the smallest detail. The "Crafted in Japan" text and R-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt neck plate.

The traditional electronics work as they should, with the original pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone controls. Hardware includes the bridge with spiral saddles and knurled chrome knobs, and the original dark reddish brown glossy tortoise pickguard provides a great contrast to the Olympic White finish. A very well-kept example, cosmetic wear on the bass is limited to a bit of light pick scuffing on the guard, a few dings on the body parameter (mostly clustered on the lower bout edge), and just a few tiny shallow dings on the back. The ambered gloss on the neck profile is flawless.
