Up for sale, a 2005 Fender Mustang Bass in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hangtags and gigbag. Crafted in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful and discontinued reissue of the classic short scale Fender model, with a factory installed split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. Finished in Olympic White, this iteration of the Mustang Bass was made for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that fills out the low end nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass. More aggressive and midrange forward than a P, this Mustang Bass is strung with roundwound 45-100 strings, delivering an articulate top end and a touch of growl. The instrument is also particularly lightweight at only 8lbs. We've had this Mustang Bass dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C profile carve at the nut with lightly rolled fretboard edges and more roundness and heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .800" deep at the 1st fret and .975" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut retaining the original slender frets which are practically perfect, playing cleanly in every register. The scale length is 30", while the fretboard radius matches vintage spec at 7 1/4" and the nut width measures 1 1/2". On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly with only light surface patina, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face. The "Crafted in Japan" text and R-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt "F" neck plate.
The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls to govern the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome-plated bridge and control plate are positively gleaming, and the deep red tortoise pickguard contrasts with the Olympic White gloss finish. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few exceedingly faint finish scratches just south of the neck plate, and a couple tiny nicks on the lower bout body edge. The neck profile is pristine with a smooth gloss finish.
The original hangtag (with matching serial), manual, cable, and gigbag are included.
