Up for sale, a 2004 Tokai Love Rock II quilted maple double cutaway in near-mint condition and in perfect working order. This modern iteration of the Love Rock platform features a solid mahogany body with a jaw-dropping bookmatched quilted maple top, a one-piece mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fretboard, and a pair of USA-made Seymour Duncan humbuckers.

The tonewood complement yields a combination of fundamental warmth and treble cut, qualities faithfully captured by the Seymour Duncan humbuckers. The bridge pickup is an SH-4 JB, Duncan’s most popular design and the original hot-rodded humbucker, delivering full, powerful lows; crisp, detailed highs; and an upper-midrange bump that adds crunch and chunk to heavy chords and translates to a singing, vocal-like quality for melodic playing. The neck pickup is a Pearly Gates, patterned after the PAFs in Billy Gibbons’ 1959 Les Paul; it’s slightly overwound for that Texas sizzle, with stronger mids and a sweet, dynamic quality. This guitar weighs 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss Walnut finish is framed on top by cream binding, highlighting the depth and dimension of the quilt figuring in the bookmatched maple cap. Wear is limited to very minor buckle worming on the back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate save for a couple small areas of cloudiness in the clear coat, imperceptible to the palm while fretting.
