Up for sale, a 2004 Gretsch Sparkle Jet G6129TL in near-mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. This discontinued Professional Collection Gretsch sports a Light Blue Pearl “drum wrap”-style top, upgraded with a pair of USA-made TV Jones humbuckers, the same pickups seen across the board in Gretsch's upper tier and Masterbuilt models.Tonewoods include a chambered mahogany body and three-ply maple top, yielding plenty of natural acoustic honk and bark, paired with glassy immediacy and detail of the ebony fingerboard. Outfitted with the same pickup pair seen in a '59 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman model, this Jet features a TV Jones SuperTron in the neck position, and a TV Jones Classic Plus at the bridge. Using thinner gauge wire, the Classic Plus saturates quickly with a punchy midrange quality, retaining the overarching tonal response of a '50s FilterTron. The SuperTron in the neck has steel blade poles, and the larger magnetized surface area of the blades produces greater inductance, offering a bold and full broadband punch, increased output and body, and a slightly accentuated midrange. This Jet weighs 7lbs 7oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation. The mahogany neck has a medium depth soft V-shaped profile carve with a hair more roundness in the upper registers, measuring .835” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th. The ebony fingerboard has neo-classical “thumbnail” inlay, and the fretwire is practically perfect, only exhibiting a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24.6” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 11/16” in width. On the headstock, the Grover open-gear tuning machines function smoothly. All of the electronics work as they should, and the controls are simple, straight ahead, classic Gretsch. The guitar features a three-way pickup selector toggle, three-way Tone switch (bypassed in the middle), Master Volume knob on the treble side cutaway, and individual Volume knobs just south of the Bigsby. The serialized model label is visible in the control cavity (along with the USA-made CTS pots), matching the serial number on the back of the headstock. The chrome plating on the pickup covers, G pointer knobs, and Bigsby B3C vibrato is all quite clean, and the Space Control bridge works well with the vibrato, actuating easily and staying in tune well with a responsive spring. Plastics include the silver plexi pickguard, and the control cavity and switch covers all retain the factory protective film, indicative of the limited use this guitar has seen since new.The bound Light Blue Pearl “drum wrap”-style top sets this model apart from more common Sparkle Jet iterations, and this guitar is extremely well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to just a scant few faint scratches in the clear coat on the back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is immaculate. The original Gretsch-branded hardshell case is included, along with the original FilterTron pair and a second upgrade bridge option.
