Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue model PB70-70US in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. An uncommon "Crafted in Japan" model, this bass features a factory-installed Fender American Standard split coil P Bass pickup, along with a few select vintage touches including a block logo on the headstock, proper thumb rest placement, and black pickguard. One welcome deviation from vintage spec is a thick slab rosewood fretboard (as opposed to a thinner veneer board seen on actual vintage examples). With an alder body as its sonic foundation, this bass delivers the goods with strong thump and excellent articulation. Weighing 9lbs 1oz, this bass has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .860” deep at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and flawless medium jumbo fretwire. This bass plays cleanly up the 34” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8“ in width. The headstock features a block logo, and the clover-button tuners turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, with full-size baseplates and a light dusting of patina. The “Crafted in Japan” text and Q-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as they should, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness and governed by Master Volume and Tone controls. Hardware includes clean chrome-plated knurled knobs and bridge, with just a hint of patina across the steel barrel saddles. Plastics include the three-ply black pickguard.

The gloss Olympic White finish (catalog: Vintage White) shows some limited areas of yellowing in the clear coat, most prominent along the bass-side perimeter and on the back. Cosmetic wear is limited to a few faint scratches and tiny marks in the clear coat on the body as a whole, and a handful of minor dings along the lower bout perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss, with one small, shallow chip on the bass-side shoulder at fret 3 that has no impact on playability.

A gigbag is included.
