Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Precision Bass '62 vintage reissue in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this discontinued model (officially PB62-70US) is quite rare outside of Japan and 100% original. An upscale iteration of the '62 Precision platform, this bass features a USA-made pickup, vintage-spec spiral bridge saddles and tuners, and an alder body. The quality is exceptional, and the "Crafted in Japan" instruments exemplify the attention to detail and dedication on the part of Fender Japan to deliver instruments that have both an alluring vintage look and tone to match.

Looking to capture the magic that made the early 1960s split-coil P Bass so beloved, Fender Japan released this '62 reissue with the same cosmetic appointments, as well as the warmth, articulation and fundamental thump that defines the Precision tone. The bass weighs 8lbs 15oz, offering the sonic richness that has been the signature of this model for decades. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this bass is strung with fresh roundwound 45-100 strings and plays well with comfortable action and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round, inviting shoulders, lightly rolled fretboard edges, and a bit more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .835" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender vintage-style frets which are practically perfect, and there’s one ding on the fretboard next to the 7th fret dot that doesn’t impact playability in the slightest. This bass is very rewarding to play, and notes ring out clearly in all registers up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut has a full 1 11/16" width and the fretboard radius is 7 1/4". On the headstock, the vintage-style clover button tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch well with full-size vintage-spec baseplates. The back of the headstock even has a third strap button, keeping this instrument period correct right down to the smallest detail. The "Crafted in Japan" text and Q-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

The traditional electronics work as they should, with the original pickup wired to Master Volume and Tone controls. Hardware includes the bridge with spiral saddles and knurled chrome knobs which have clean plating. The gloss Black finish exhibits some scattered dings and finish scratches on the back, while wear on top is far more restrained. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is nigh flawless.

A gigbag is included.
