2004 Fender Precision Bass '51 Vintage Reissue Telecaster Bass OPB51-95SD Sunburst w/ Case, Japan CIJ

Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Precision Bass '51 vintage reissue in near mint condition and in perfect working order, featuring upgraded electronics and a Fender G&G Deluxe tweed hardshell case. A rare and discontinued model made only for the Japanese domestic market (officially model OPB51-95SD), this bass is a faithful reissue of the earliest Precision Bass feature set.

At the heart of the bass is a USA-made Lindy Fralin '51 Split P Bass pickup, featuring two individual coils oriented side by side for clear, hum-free performance. The bass delivers a strong fundamental punch with a resonance and thump that cuts through with a different tonal color and more presence than later split coil P Bass pickups. The solid ash string-through body ensures the bass delivers both exquisite sustain and a complex midrange character. The bass weighs 9lbs 11oz and balances well on a strap, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with comfortable action and 45-105 roundwound strings.

The one-piece maple neck has a substantial U-shaped profile carve with full shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .885" deep at the 1st fret and 1.025" at the 12th. The maple fretboard has a 7 1/4" radius with slender vintage-style frets that are practically perfect with their full factory height and well-rounded crowns. The neck is straight, and notes ring out clearly up the 34" scale. The nut measures 42.5mm in width (1.675"). On the headstock, the original long stem tuners turn smoothly with clean nickel plating, and the bass has the smaller early '50s headstock profile most associated with the Telecaster. The "Crafted in Japan" text and R-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate.

All of the electronics work as intended, and the upgraded Lindy Fralin black bobbin pickup is wired to the stock pots and an upgraded Sprague Orange Drop tone capacitor. Hardware includes the two-saddle bridge, domed knurled knobs, control plate, and an upgraded pair of "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers, all with gleaming chrome plating. There are also two sets of mounting holes for the bridge cover. Cosmetic wear on the two-tone Sunburst gloss finish is limited to a few tiny dings and faint finish scratches in the clear coat on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is flawless.

An upgrade Fender-branded tweed G&G Deluxe hardshell case is included.
