Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Mustang Bass in excellent, 100% original condition with an uncommon, highly figured flame maple neck. Crafted in Japan, this Mustang is a faithful and discontinued reissue of the classic short scale Fender model, with a factory installed split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. Finished in gloss three-tone Sunburst, this iteration of the Mustang Bass was made for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. There's a certain pluck and punch unique to this bass that's particularly appealing and sits well in a mix, with a thump that fills out the low end nicely while being a bit more focused than a Precision Bass. More aggressive and midrange forward than a P, this Mustang Bass is strung with fresh roundwound 45-105 strings, delivering an articulate top end and a touch of growl. The instrument is also particularly lightweight at only 7lbs 8oz. We've had this Mustang Bass dialed in to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with optimal action and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a slender C carve at the nut, with round shoulders in every register, lightly rolled fretboard edges, and more heft as you travel up the fretboard. The neck is incredibly figured, with tight, dimensional tiger flame extending liberally across the entire profile and headstock. The profile measures .820" deep at the 1st fret and .875" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard retains the original slender frets which have well-rounded crowns and their full factory height, playing cleanly in every register and showing only very light wear on frets 1-5. The scale length is 30", while the fretboard radius matches vintage spec at 7 1/4" and the nut width measures 1 1/2". On the headstock, the clover button tuning gears turn very smoothly, and the block "Mustang Bass" logo is present on the headstock face. The "Crafted in Japan" text and R-prefix serial are present just above the four-bolt "F" neck plate. The simple and straightforward electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone controls to govern the split coil Seymour Duncan pickup. The chrome-plated bridge and control plate are positively gleaming, and the white pearloid three-ply pickguard has great dimension. The slab alder body is finished in a rich gloss three-tone Sunburst which exhibits a few dings central to the back and a few additional minor scuffs and marks essentially relegated to the back and lower bout body edge. The neck profile has a flawless ambered gloss finish.A padded gigbag is included.
