Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Jazz Bass '75 vintage reissue in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the more rare and upscale Jazz Bass models produced exclusively for the Japanese domestic market (and now discontinued), this "Crafted in Japan" model features a bound maple fretboard with pearl block inlay, and most importantly, factory-installed USA Fender pickups. Weighing 10lbs 4oz with an alder body, this Jazz Bass has a smooth sound with a strong fundamental punch and a rich, sustaining tone. The low end is thick and focused, balanced by the inherent articulation and note attack of the maple fretboard. The bridge pickup has a smooth growl and ample clarity, augmented by the fuller thump of the neck position single coil. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazz Bass is strung with fresh 45-100 roundwound strings and has been dialed in for optimal action and intonation.
The one-piece maple neck has a medium C profile carve at the nut, offering generous shoulder in every register, in part due to the depth of the cream neck binding, with lightly rolled fretboard edges for added comfort. The profile measures .855" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The bound maple fretboard features the original medium jumbo fretwire which retains its full factory height, showing just a touch of wear on the crowns of frets 1-3. The bass plays easily in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The stock bone nut measures 1 1/2" in width. The headstock features full-size vintage-style Fender tuners with clover buttons and uniform patina on the plating, and the R-prefix serial number is present just below the Jazz Bass logo.
All of the electronics work as they should, with a pair of the same pickups used on Fender's American Standard Jazz Bass line. The chrome hardware has plenty of shine, and there's only a bit of light pick scuffing on the three-ply brown tortoise pickguard. Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to a few scuffs, dings, and marks of general, light use central to the back and on the back lower bout body edge. The gloss neck profile finish is flawless.
This discontinued Jazz Bass was exclusive to the Japanese market and rarely seen outside its country of origin. With premium features and a pair of factory-installed USA-made pickups, it's a testament to the build quality and attention to detail of Fender Japan's vintage reissue instruments.
A gigbag is included.
