Up for sale, a 2004 Fender Aerodyne Telecaster model ATL70 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. This rare Fender Japan offering, introduced in 2004, sports a bevy of unique features including a contoured top framed by cream binding, a matching headstock, and a P90 pickup in the neck position.Tonewoods include a basswood body, a maple neck, and a thick slab rosewood fretboard, and this guitar has a smooth, balanced acoustic voice, faithfully captured by the stock pickup complement. The traditional Tele bridge pickup delivers plenty of twang and snap with a shimmering top end and ample bite. The soapbar P90 in the neck position has a midrange-forward sound, warm with plenty of growl and presence, and the two pickups blend notably well for a thick sound with great articulation. This ATL70 weighs 7lbs 5oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .940” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is in great shape, retaining its full factory height and well-rounded crowns, only showing a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-6. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width, carved from bone for optimal sustain and clarity. On the matching headstock, the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” text and Q-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups wired to the stock harness and governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The chrome-plated hardware has plenty of shine, including the dome-topped knurled knobs and bridge with block saddles. The rear control cavity and switch covers still retain their protective factory film, indicative of the limited use this guitar has seen in the last nearly two decades.Cosmetic wear on the gloss Black finish is limited to a pair of small dings on the top at the bass-side lower bout, an area of light buckle rash on the back central to the waist, and some faint scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole, largely concentrated along the lower bout perimeter. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is flawless. The original Fender-branded padded gigbag is included.
