Up for sale, a 2003 James Trussart Brushed Steeltop custom-ordered one-off in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original G&G Deluxe hardshell case and catalog. Crafted by hand in Los Angeles, James Trussart’s guitars feature steel front and center, with a variety of hand-engraved patterns and patinas, and have attracted a variety of luminaries including Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, and Tom Morello. This particular Brushed Steeltop is a custom-ordered, one-owner example, loaded with a pair of Harmonic Design “Classic Humbucker” PAFs.
The brushed steel top is recessed into the chambered mahogany body, and despite the amount of metal on this guitar, it weighs a very reasonable 8lbs 7oz. Via the steel top and chambered construction, the natural acoustic tone of this instrument has a resonator-esque snappy, barking cut. The Harmonic Design Classic Humbuckers are a faithful recreation of the Gibson’s PAF, designed to capture the sweetness, warmth, and clarity of that celebrated design, wound slightly fatter than than most PAF-style humbuckers to ensure ideal balance between the treble and bass response. Independent push/pull coil splits enable single coil sparkle and snap, and the push/pull Phase switch yields a slinky, hollow out-of-phase tone. This Trussart Brushed Steeltop has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
