Up for sale, a 2003 Jackson PC1 Phil Collen Signature in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case and factory paperwork. This USA-made Artist Signature Series Jackson, designed in collaboration with the Def Leppard guitarist, is an expertly-built offering with a huge array of tonal options, premium tonewoods and componentry including a pair of DiMarzio pickups and a Jackson Sustainer/Driver neck pickup.
Featuring a mahogany body, deeply figured quilted maple top, quartersawn maple neck, and flame maple fingerboard, this PC1 has a lively, dynamic acoustic presence with great top end articulation faithfully captured by the stock pickup complement. The bridge humbucker is a DiMarzio Super 3 humbucker, essentially a Super Distortion with more midrange grind and chopped treble, optimized for scooped mids and high gain playing with a smooth upper register. The middle pickup is a DiMarzio HS-2; among the most versatile DiMarzio pickups ever made, the HS-2 can produce both single coil sparkle and humbucker warmth, and it’s patented stacked single coil design means the humbucker tones are brighter and clearer, while the single coil sounds are notably hum-free. Finally, the Jackson Sustainer/Driver neck pickup offers seemingly endless sustain, perfect for solos, melodic playing, and wild feedback. This Jackson weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.
The quartersawn maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .795” deep at the 1st fret and .845” at the 12th. The thick slab flame maple fretboard has a 12” radius, and the stock jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, only exhibiting a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width, holding steady against even the deepest dive bombs via the genuine Floyd Rose tremolo. The headstock has Phil Collen’s signature and Jackson “Made in USA” logo. There is also a touched-up shallow doweled piece of circular maple on the headstock (reason unknown). The Jackson-branded gold tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch, and the back of the headstock retains the allen keys for the locking nut and tremolo.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a five-way selector switch, Master Volume and Tone controls, a two-way Harmonic Blend switch, two-way Sustainer on/off switch, and Sustain Intensity knob. The Sustainer Intensity knob enables expressive feedback as well as the ability to rein in the power of the sustainer, and the unit is powered by two 9V batteries, easily accessed on the back of the body. The solder joints are untouched, and the CTS pots date between 2002-03. The gold plated hardware is notably clean, including the dome-topped knurled knobs and the genuine Floyd Rose Original tremolo system, which actuates smoothly and snaps right back to pitch.
The gloss Solar finish is a subtle sunburst that highlights the dimensional figuring in the quilted maple top, and cosmetic wear is limited to an area of modest buckle wear on the metal control cavity cover, one prominent line of finish checking on the back extending horizontally at the waist, and just a handful of faint scratches on the body as a whole. The smooth satin finish on the neck profile is immaculate.
The original Jackson-branded molded hardshell case is included, along with the factory paperwork.
