Up for sale, a 2003 Gibson SG Special electric guitar in perfect working order with a lightly figured two-piece mahogany body and gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish. Evoking the look of a late '60s SG and distinguished from the SG Standard of the era only by the dot fretboard inlay and uncovered humbuckers, this Gibson features a pair of stock 490R and 498T pickups. These pickups have an incredible dynamic range, with the 490R neck pickup being smooth and clear, while the 498T is a high output powerhouse, great for high gain and cutting crunch. At 6lbs 14oz, this Gibson is featherweight, and acoustically the instrument offers a big barking acoustic sound, very open and present, translating well through the humbuckers. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this SG has been freshly restrung with 10-46 strings and features low action and solid intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C profile carve with rounded shoulders and more heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .840" deep at the 1st fret and .980" at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard features original slender vintage-spec fretwire with its full factory height, showing light wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-5 and fainter flattening of the crowns beneath the plains extending to the octave. The guitar plays easily up the 24 3/4" scale, and the nut measures 1 11/16" in width, upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone for optimal note clarity and sustain. On the headstock, the original Gibson Deluxe tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well with double line gear housings and lightly greened tulip buttons.

All of the electronics work as intended, and the hardware includes the original chrome stopbar and an upgraded Schaller roller bridge with a Nashville-style base. All of the original plastic parts are intact including the batwing pickguard and quartet of reflector cap knobs. The gloss Cherry nitro lacquer finish highlights unusual ripples of figuring in the mahogany across the body, and cosmetic wear includes some pick scuffing across the guard, light buckle rash central to the waist, and some additional minor dings and finish scuffs largely relegated to the back and body perimeter. The neck also retains its smooth nitro gloss, showing just a few tiny shallow marks on the profile length.

A padded gigbag is included.
