Up for sale, a 2003 Fender Strat-O-Sonic "Dove II" in near-mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original molded hardshell case and hangtags. This decidedly unique Fender, produced for just a handful of years as part of the American Special series, features a chambered Honduran mahogany body, loaded with a pair of DE-9000 Black Dove P-90-style single coil pickups. Other modern, player-friendly features include a 9 1/2“ fretboard radius, 24 3/4“ scale length, satin neck finish, and a contoured neck heel.
A maple neck and slab 22-fret rosewood fretboard round out the tonewood complement, and the instrument is a medium weight example at 7lbs 7oz. The DE-9000 Black Dove single coil pickups channel a natural growl and midrange inherent in mahogany as a tonewood, delivering a P-90-style tonal palette with glassy treble detail, barking cut and great sensitivity to picking dynamics. The bridge pickup has a particularly gutsy punch, and each position on the three-way switch is distinct. This Strat-O-Sonic has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
