Up for sale, a 2003 Music Man StingRay 4H 3EQ in near mint, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with its original hardshell case and hangtags. A short-run model, this StingRay features a gloss White finish with an uncommon matching headstock.
As the next landmark company founded by Leo Fender and George Fullerton after the sale of Fender Musical Instruments, Music Man offered an opportunity for this dynamic duo to further refine and build upon Fender's various innovations. Arguably the crown jewel of the Music Man lineup, the StingRay bass has remained largely the same since its introduction in ‘76, featuring the now iconic oval pickguard, solitary bridge humbucker, and active EQ (the first production four-string bass to do so).
Weighing 9lbs 13oz, this bass features an ash body and a maple neck capped by a rosewood fretboard, yielding a punchy, broad acoustic quality with great treble detail and midrange push. The original “8 Magnet Special Design” alnico humbucker offers growl and thick, round thump, with a wide array of tonalities achievable via the active preamp and Treble/Bass EQ knobs. This StingRay benefits from a professional setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 45-100 roundwound strings, easy-playing action, and accurate intonation.

The gloss White finish is very clean and bright, with faint yellowing in the clear coat and a subtle rectangular “tan line” from a previously removed sticker central to the back. Cosmetic wear is limited to two tiny finish chips, one at the treble-side neck heel pocket and one adjacent to the G string tuner, with just a few other faint marks on the body consistent with careful use. The satin finish on the neck profile is smooth and clean, finished in Music Man’s proprietary gunstock oil and wax blend.
The original molded hardshell case and hangtags are included.
