2002 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus AAA Flame Top Cherry Sunburst w/ 57 Classic PAFs, Case

+ shipping

Up for sale, a 2002 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus in 100% original condition and in perfect working order. The AAA carved maple cap on this upper tiered "Plus" iteration of the Standard has broad, straight flame extending evenly across the top, creating a chevron effect behind the bridge, framed by a particularly dark Heritage Cherry Sunburst gloss.

Weighing 9lbs 15oz, this Les Paul is a punchy and round-sounding instrument with great sustain and an authoritative natural acoustic tone. The original pair of '57 Classic PAF humbuckers are intact, wax potted with Alnico II magnets. These pickups translate the instrument's clear voice into a powerful array of big, crisp voicings. The bridge pickup has the growl, midrange cut, and dynamic responsiveness one expects, while the neck pickup is girthy and thick while still retaining enough clarity and definition for higher gain and complex chord voicings. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Les Paul Standard is dialed in with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and solid intonation.

The one-piece mahogany neck has Gibson’s '60s profile carve with round shoulders, and while slender at the nut, the profile gains notable additional heft further up the fretboard, measuring .815" deep at the 1st fret and .950" at the 12th. The bound, dark rosewood fretboard features pearloid trapezoid inlay, and the stock medium jumbo frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The frets show moderate wear on the crowns of frets 1-3, with lighter wear extending beneath the plain strings to fret 10. This Les Paul plays cleanly up the straight neck with a responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod, and the nut has Gibson's traditional 1 11/16" width. The headstock retains the original Gibson Deluxe Kluson-style tuners with vintage-spec push-in bushings and greened keystone buttons.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the Gibson '57 Classic PAF humbucker pair is wired to the original harness with Gibson-embossed Alpha pots. Both humbuckers have clean PAF waterslides on the humbucker baseplates too. The nickel-plated hardware has uniform surface patina on the pickup covers, Nashville bridge and stopbar. Plastics include the original pickup rings, switch surround, and quartet of amber bonnet knobs.

The dark hued Heritage Cherry Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer finish is 100% original, highlighting the flame maple figuring across the top, and there is additional subtle quilt figuring across the mahogany back. Cosmetic wear includes “rack rash” on either side of the nut, various small dings on top, and some finish scratches and a greater concentration of marks on the back and body perimeter. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with one very shallow spot of wear from contact with a guitar stand behind fret 7, buffed smooth and not distracting to the palm while fretting.

The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case is included.
