Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Telecaster ‘62 vintage reissue model TL62-65US in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market during Fender Japan’s “Crafted in Japan” era, the quality fit and finish of these instruments provided stiff competition for Fender’s American Vintage line. The traditional-spec tonewood complement includes an alder body, maple neck, and slab rosewood fretboard. Acoustically, this guitar has a rich natural sustain and resonance, translated faithfully by the stock Fender American Vintage Telecaster pickups. The pickups are bright and sparkling; offering more warmth and percussive cut at the neck and more twang and bite at the bridge. Weighing 7lbs 11oz, we’ve had this Telecaster professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with fresh 10-46 strings, low action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a modestly slender C-shaped profile carve with well-rounded shoulders, measuring .825” at the 1st fret and .965” at the 12th. The slab rosewood fretboard features a vintage-spec 7 1/4” radius and stock slender fretwire. The frets are in exceptional condition, retaining their full factory height with well-rounded crowns, with just a touch of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. This guitar plays cleanly in every register with a straight neck and responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. Further adhering to vintage spec, the scale length is 25 1/2” and the nut measures 42.5mm (1.675") in width. The headstock retains the original set of Kluson-style Gotoh tuners, which turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The “Crafted in Japan” script and Q-prefix serial number are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All the electronics function as intended, with the USA-made Fender pickups wired to the stock harness with a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. The string-through body bridge features vintage-spec spiral saddles which exhibit uniform surface patina, and the chrome plating on the bridge, control plate, and flattop knurled knobs is notably clean. The three-ply pale mint pickguard displays some light requisite scuffing along the picking path. The Lake Placid Blue custom color finish is an uncommon option, and this particular finish is abbreviated OLB for "Old Lake Placid Blue" referencing a more icy, vintage-correct shade than previous Fender Japan offerings. Cosmetic wear includes some minor dings and light finish scratches across the body, with a couple tiny finish chips on the body perimeter and a spot of faint buckle rash central to the waist on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is clean and smooth, highlighting faint flame figuring on the profile length. The original Fender-branded gigbag is included.
