Up for sale, a 2002 Fender Precision Bass ‘70 vintage reissue model PB70-78US in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, sporting a custom color Capri Orange finish. This upper-tiered, discontinued iteration of the P Bass platform is an early "Crafted in Japan" model, rarely seen outside its country of origin. At its heart, this Precision Bass features a factory-installed Fender USA American Standard split coil P Bass pickup. Other select vintage-centric touches include a block logo on the headstock, properly positioned thumb rest (not currently installed), and a thick slab rosewood fretboard, an impactful feature that arguably elevates this model over actual vintage examples with thinner veneer boards. Tonally, this bass delivers the goods, and acoustically the alder body is quite resonant. There's a strong fundamental thump to the tone, and the roundwound strings provide plenty of top end articulation. The bass weighs 8lbs 12oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 45-105 roundwound strings, comfortable action, and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a moderately slender C-shaped profile carve with lightly rolled fretboard edges and nicely rounded shoulders, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard has a vintage spec 7 1/4" radius with flawless stock medium jumbo frets. The bass plays cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock the tuners have the correct vintage footprint with large chrome clover-shaped keys that show only light surface patina. The "Crafted in Japan" text and P-prefix serial are present above the four-bolt neck plate. All of the electronics work as they should, with the American Standard pickup wired to the stock Fender Japan wiring harness. Hardware includes clean chrome-plated knurled knobs and bridge, with light patina across the barrel saddles. Cosmetic wear on the Capri Orange finish includes a number of dings on the body as a whole, largely concentrated on the lower bout body edge, and an area of light buckle rash on the back at the treble side waist. There is also a cluster of small marks on top between the pickguard edge and bridge. The ambered gloss finish on the neck profile is smooth in the palm, with a handful of minor marks along the profile length that are not distracting to the palm while fretting.A padded gigbag is included.
